destined to work with flowers
花に生まれた運命
Azumi began her career training and working as a florist in Japan. After several years, she sought to broaden her skills through further study in Germany, the heart of European floral design. In Munich, she completed her second apprenticeship, immersing herself in German design theory and hands-on techniques. Over four years, she trained intensively and worked as a florist in the German tradition, gaining a unique perspective on European floral artistry.
With a deep understanding of both Japanese and European floral design, Azumi returned to Japan to join one of Tokyo’s most prestigious florists. There, she collaborated with a team of thirty designers, creating elaborate arrangements for a wide range of clients—from celebrities, politicians, and royalty to consumer brands and foreign embassies. Amid the fast-paced Tokyo flower scene, Azumi built a reputation as a highly skilled and inventive florist.
In 2010, Azumi moved to Melbourne, Australia, where her expertise and artistry were quickly recognised. She worked across retail, events, and weddings, and began teaching beginners, hobbyists, and experienced florists alike.
Through teaching, she discovered a meaningful way to share her knowledge and passion for flowers. Inspired by this vision, Azumi founded byAzumi in 2017—a dedicated studio for creative floristry and design workshops, where her practice continues to be inspired by the beauty of nature.
Osaka — Munich —Tokyo — Melbourne
Born in Osaka, Japan, Azumi Ishikawa grew up with an innate sensitivity to the beauty of nature. As a child, she would watch her mother, a master of ikebana, transform seasonal flowers into exquisite arrangements, each one telling its own story.
Their home was always filled with flowers and plants, with floral arrangements in every corner. Growing up surrounded by this artistry, Azumi realized early on that she was meant to work with flowers and continue the legacy of beauty that had shaped her world
FOUNDER
あずみ

For me, floral design isn’t just decorative.
Flowers and natural elements can elevate
a space, whether at home, at work, or
at special events. Being surrounded by
nature helps us feel calmer and more focused
and I love bringing that sense of nature
indoors through my creations.

This was a present to my mum and it was lovely to do together. The studio is clean, modern and perfect for a class. The Japanese green tea and snack was a nice touch. The handout of the information covered was informative and great to be able to refer back to. The flower arrangements were beautiful and we are admiring them daily. Thank you for you calmness and encouragement!
