the space between.

Our name is inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma (間) — “the space between.” Ma is an intentional space full of meaning, highly valued in Japanese culture and aesthetics.

It appears between objects, words, moments, sounds, and even people, allowing each element to exist fully while creating harmony, depth, and focus on what truly matters.

Ma in Ikebana

In ikebana, the space between flowers highlights each bloom’s individuality. At the same time, it reflects the creator’s intention — what to emphasize, what to express, and how to shape meaning. Ikebana is not simply about arranging flowers; its essence lies in expressing through space itself.

At our studio, ikebana is both an art form and a way of life. It’s a place to pause, listen to your feelings, and observe subtle movements while staying true to yourself. Here, flowers are given space to breathe and shine, mirroring your own emotions and life.

Studio MA Style

Our style is non-traditional freestyle ikebana, where personal  expression and connection with nature are central. We carry the essence of traditional ikebana into today’s lifestyle — less about strict rules, and more about revealing natural beauty through your own hands.

Ikebana here is both art and practice — rooted in Japanese aesthetics, it teaches you to notice, appreciate, and express the quiet elegance of nature through simple, thoughtful design.

You’ll Learn three ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The studio becomes a sanctuary to connect, express, and be.

Awareness

Ikebana begins with seeing. Awareness is the ability to notice a flower’s unique qualities—its shape, line, colour, and the subtle story it carries. This sensitivity deepens over time, allowing you to observe seasonality, relationships between materials, and the quiet beauty in details often overlooked.

Composition

The art of arranging is guided by form, balance, and space. Composition teaches how elements interact—flowers, branches, and empty space working together to create harmony. From simple forms to complex structures, it is the language through which ikebana takes shape.

Technique

Technique is the craft that supports vision. It includes the practical skills of cutting, shaping, and positioning materials so they remain secure and alive. As technique refines, it becomes almost invisible—freeing the artist to create with confidence, ease, and fluidity.
