一枝いけ (Ishi-ike) Ikebana style

Goal : The purpose of the style "Single Branch Expression" (一枝いけIshi-ike ) in ikebana is to highlight the characteristics of a single branch. The minimal design showcases every detail of the branch, evoking a feeling of its inner beauty. This minimalistic style emphasises a sense of elegance and highlights individuality.

To bring out and maximise individuality, the creator's perspective is essential in identifying the unique features of the branch and utilising those features in the design. The creator's perspective greatly influences the expression.

Flowers used : Japanese quince

The Japanese Quince has interesting branch shapes, ideal for ikebana. The branches zigzag randomly, which is rare, so it is good to highlight this feature in the design. The simple flower shapes are also striking and impressive, known as one of the significant winter flowers.

Tips :

1. The key point is to first identify the distinctive features of the branch.

2. Despite its simplicity, it can express fine details, such as aged branches, unique shapes, and texture.

3. A minimal design can look unfinished if there is a lack of balance between the vase and the arrangement. It is also important consider the bottom part of the design( ashi-moto ) to hide the kenzan.
